Logistics giant Maersk says a joined-up approach to supply chain management has helped one of Chile’s leading cherry suppliers to open new and faraway markets on the other side of the globe.

By coordinating various links in that chain through one system, the group claims to have helped grower-exporter Geofrut to bring cherries “in perfect condition” all the way from Chile’s Central Valley region to customers in Asia.

Over the past five years, the partners have worked to create what Maersk describes as “seamless movement” of fresh cargo.

That means different aspects of the fruit’s journey – ocean shipping, inland transport, airfreight, coldstorage, and customs clearance – are all managed centrally.

“Maersk is our strategic partner in logistics from origin to destination,” says Cristian Echeverria, Geofrut’s social director. “They enable us to closely monitor the fruit’s journey every day, providing an end-to-end logistics solution that has evolved with the times, meets international standards, and remains fully committed to our shipments.”
