Malaysian durian specialist and state development corporation introduce digital traceability framework, supported by proposed Pahang Durian City integrated economic hub
Orchard-to-consumer durian specialist, DSR Taiko and the Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on establishing a verified origin standard and digitising export traceability for Pahang Musang King (PMSK) durians.
The joint effort will create an authentication, certification, and verification system and introduce the PMSK origin label as a trusted mark of authenticity and quality. The initiative complements the state’s “Pahang First” agenda and protects its most valuable premium agricultural asset, benefiting both local growers and consumers worldwide.
According to DSR Taiko and PKNP, participating local growers can tag their harvest with the PMSK origin label that functions as a digital passport to counter false origin claims, secure better pricing, and access high-value international markets. The label is secured by the Musang King Integrated Tracking System (MKITS), enabling consumers to easily verify and purchase genuine, quality-controlled fruit.
“Pahang produces the finest durians in the world, yet in a multi-billion-ringgit global market, a lack of verifiable trust is costing growers the true value they deserve,” said DSR Taiko CEO Dato’ Ng Lian Poh.
“We are collaborating with PKNP to establish a verified origin standard, applying our experience in digital traceability systems successfully deployed internationally. Pahang’s growers need modern tools to protect their businesses and expand their sales.
“The framework provides participating growers with a commercial advantage to secure export premiums, assures consumers of genuine quality, and establishes Pahang Musang King as a globally trusted brand.”
The initiative integrates technical guidance from SIRIM Pahang for robust origin and traceability assurance. Moving forward, the framework will expand to support the proposed Pahang Durian City integrated economic hub in Bentong, which includes dedicated grading and authentication, downstream food and beverage manufacturing, retail, agro-tourism, research and development, and post-harvest activities for durians sourced from the state.
Malaysia’s durian exports crossed RM1.5bn (US$370mn) in 2025 and are forecast by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to reach RM1.8bn by 2030, with Pahang a major contributor as the primary producer of Musang King. As Malaysia expands its durian market globally, the traceability mechanism is designed to protect the state’s agricultural economy and premium output.
