Leading Indian fruit importer IG International, today (18 December), unveiled a solar panel project designed to power its Bangalore cold stores and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Its Bangalore 150 kWp Net Metering Rooftop Solar PV installation, which cost around US$93,660, will produce “2,10,000 units of electricity annually”, the firm said, and will set IG on its way to becoming a more sustainable operation.

Commenting on the initiative, IG International director Tarun Arora said: “We at IG International are committed to practising as well as promoting environmental stewardship. Greenhouse gases are the main factors driving climate change, which is one of the biggest challenges faced by humanity today. With mounting research showing how climate change will have adverse effects on our world, we decided to do our bit to mitigate the damages and contribute to a sustainable future.”
