India can now export fresh mangoes, pomegranates (including arils), oranges, and garlic to Canada, according to a formal notice from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda).

The approval follows confirmation from the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Canada and requires compliance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) import standards.

Under these guidelines, shipments must be free from soil, pests, plant debris, and other contaminants and the origin of produce must be clearly identified on shipping documents.

If the produce is packaged in straw, the import requirements for straw must also be met and additional phytosanitary requirements will apply if branches or leaves are attached.

All consignments will be subject to inspection by Canadian authorities.

Apeda encouraged interested exporters to take advantage of the new opportunity while urging them to comply with all requirements.
