Communist rebels have burned several pieces of equipment at a Sumifru facility in Mindanao in the Philippines, according to the country’s military.

In the night-time raid earlier this week the guerrillas destroyed two sprayer trucks, a water tanker and a container van at the facility in Bukidnon in central Mindanao, reported the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

“The motive behind the attack was the failure of the company to pay the revolutionary tax,” said military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Leopoldo Galon. “No one was injured in the attack.”

Government negotiations resumed last month with communist rebels, who have been waging a guerrilla war in southern Mindanao – the Philippine’s banana production hub – since the late 1960s.
