Pineapple grower-exporter Aqina Fruits saw its international shipments quadruple in 2025, with strong demand from markets in Asia and the Middle East.

According to a report from Bernama, the Malaysian company said its exports jumped from 172 tonnes in 2024 to 690 tonnes in 2025. Value also increased from RM628,000 (US$160,000) to RM2.68mn (US$680,000) over the same period.

Aqina Fruits director Wesley Tan Seah Ging said the company had successfully entered international markets in China, Japan, Bahrain, Iraq and Oman.

“The largest exports of fresh fruit are to China, followed by Middle Eastern countries such as Bahrain and Iraq,” he told Bernama.

Exports account for approximately 40 per cent of Aqina Fruits’ business, while 60 per cent of the company’s marketing is focused on the domestic market. It is also expanding its value-added offering with pineapple-based products, helping the company diversify.

“As of last December, the entire MD2 pineapple planting project at Aqina Fruits covered 445ha and its production helps meet the growing demand for fruit exports,” he said.

Aqina Fruits has also improved its growing practices to maintain quality as production grows. It has embraced technology such as controlled-release fertilisers, AI and automation with the aim of reducing up to 60 per cent of human labour.
