The inaugural Taiwan International Fruit and Vegetable Show (TFVS) on 12 November in Taiwan’s largest port city, Kaohsiung, marked the country's first international-scale fresh produce exhibition.
The three-day event at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Centre attracted more than 3,918 visitors from all over the world – a success for the new show’s first year.
Organised by My Exhibition and Sphere Exhibits Malaysia, TFVS brought together 183 exhibiting companies from 13 countries with 260 booths sprawled over a total exhibition area of 5,058m2.
Under the theme of ‘quality agriculture’, the event projected an image of a modern fresh fruit and vegetable industry chain in Taiwan, with seedlings, growing and harvesting technologies, fresh and processed fruit products all on display.
Technological solutions were another focus at TFVS. Aquaponics, unmanned drones and plant-monitoring time-lapse photography were only some of the new agricultural developments promoted at the event, giving the show a unique selling point.
The three-day event drew 326 international buyers, according to organiser My Exhibition, with more than 30 companies from China alone, including the country’s largest fresh fruit group Joy Wing Mau.
“The first year has successfully attracted the attention of the global industry. Next year we will focus further on agricultural materials and facilities with more than 100 stands and host an agriculture technology show,” Irene Liu, My Exhibition general manager told Fruitnet. “Alongside this, there will also be the second edition TFVS and an international flower show. We expect to have more than 400 stands in total.”
Through organised business match-making sessions, seminars and farm tours, the organiser estimated a total of US$1.85m worth of trade was generated during this year’s show, an encouraging result leading to the event’s expansion next year.
