Demand for Australian table grapes is steadily growing in the Philippines, according to a report from local publication PhilStar.

At a season launch event in Taguig, Philippines, Australian Table Grapes Association chief executive Jeff Scott, said some of the county’s grapes has already hit the market for the season including shipments of Autumncrisp, Midnight Beauty, Sunrise Red, and Sweet Sapphire.

According to PhilStar, Scott recounted the Australian industry’s initial entry into Philippine market and credited retail and consumer relationships with driving growth for the industry. What was once an undeveloped market now receives many of Australia’s premium table grape varieties.

He added that the Philippines — alongside Korea — could challenge Japan to become the third-largest exporter of its grapes.

International marketing manager Jesse White called the Philippines an important market for Australian table grape exporters.

He thanked retail partners and importers and praised the Philippines for its food culture, enthusiasm and curiosity to try new experiences.

In May, the Philippines and Australia will commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations.
