Integrating high-quality imported avocado varieties will fuel Myanmar’s export growth, according to the country’s officials.

In a report from The Global New Light Of Myanmar, deputy minister for agriculture, livestock and Irrigation Ye Tint Tun, said combining international cultivars with local fruit would improve the quality of Myanmar’s offering and help increase exports.

“There are also opportunities to export high-quality fruits grown in cool climates, such as strawberries, to international markets. I encourage growers, producers and traders to work together, address their mutual needs through close cooperation, and jointly promote the development of this industry,”  said the the deputy minister at the at the Myanmar Avocado and Fruit Festival 2026.

The festival provided business-matching opportunities to connect farmers, producers, traders, and exporters as they sought customers for a strong 2026/2027 crop.

The Global reported in September that Myanmar expects 20,000 tonnes of avocados ready for export this season. The season runs from November to January and Myanmar’s key markets include China, Thailand, Dubai and Singapore. Myanmar Avocado Producers and Exporters Association said the industry is also exploring markets in India, Malaysia and Russia.
