Agrexco UK pleased to shake 'rigid' limitations

Agrexco is embarking on a “new beginning” with new UK headquarters and potential supply links around the globe.

The Israeli exporter’s UK arm is to source products outside Israel for the first time as well as maintaining existing links with growers.

Agrexco UK’s new general manager Dudi Vaknine, who is a chartered accountant who previously held the position of finance manager, told FPJ the business is “starting from zero” but praised the leadership of new owner Bickel Group.

The firm is to relocate within Hayes, Middlesex with an initial team of six set to rise to nine.

Vaknine said the company is pleased to be “free of the limitations of being government owned” and the “rigid” structure offered by just two shipments a week from Israel.

“Mr Bickel’s vision is to get Agrexco back to the success it has had in the past, our strength is our 56 year history. The growers are going to ask ‘what about our money?’ and Mr Bickel has assured them he will pay well,” he said.

The company is working on a new product range and looking at options for countries to source from.

Vaknine added: “We have had a tough six months and we have done our best to support all the employees who have left. We are working with our existing contacts we had with our old customers and looking at new options.”

Vaknine said it could take up to five years to get the business back to where it was but it would benefit from not working as a non-profit organisation.
