Aldi is giving away thousands of free strawberries at its west London store in Wimbledon to celebrate the start of the famous tennis tournament.

The giveaway, which began yesterday (29 June) and will run until this Friday 3 July, comes alongside price cuts of 227g strawberry punnets to 99p.

The discounter is predicting sales of five million strawberry punnets over the Wimbledon period, as berry suppliers prepare for peak trading following a challenging fortnight of extreme heat.

Consumer awareness of strawberries peaks across the tennis tournament, with this year already seeing new social media trends such as the TikTok recipe such as ‘roasted strawberry salad’.

Aldi stocks a range of strawberry lines, including Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (99p, 227g), Everyday Essentials Wonky Strawberries (£1.19, 227g), Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (£1.99, 400g), Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (£2.79, 600g) and Specially Selected British Grown Strawberries (£2.85, 400g).

Elsewhere in seasonal strawberry promotions, M&S is hoping to replicate the success of its viral strawberry and cream ‘sando’ of last year, with a new iteration served on brown bread, with strawberries, chocolate and pistachio crème.
