Apples in the pink

Pink Lady apples continue to go from strength to strength and the Pink Lady Association put on a good show at Fruit Logistica.

Since the apple’s launch in 2000 sales have consistently risen, and last year more than 84,000 tonnes of the fruit were sold, up 38 per cent on last year.

Producers are expecting the success to continue and forecasting a further 20 per cent rise this year, supported by strong promotional activity.

Area under production is also on the rise, and now covers 2,800 hectares among 2,500 growers across France, Spain and Italy.
