Members of the Assured Produce Scheme will now be able to claim equivalence to the international Eurep Gap standard alongside their APS (version1/2002) certification.

Eurep Gap promotes similar standards to those of APS, and reflects the desire to incorporate integrated crop management practices in commercial horticulture. APS made initial steps to gaining Eurep Gap equivalence earlier this year by revising its scheme to incorporate Eurep Gap standards.

APS chairman Chris Payne commented: 'We are delighted that APS has been awarded Eurep Gap equivalence. This achievement enhances the global credibility of APS, which was the first horticultural-based scheme in the world and is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of UK growers.

'Today APS remains a leading light in food assurance. Scheme standards now form the basis of specification for all leading UK retailers and are emulated by producers across the globe.'
