Asaragus overkill for grower

An error on the part of a contractor has lead to asparagus overkill for one UK grower.

A tractor driver hired to work a field at the Hadwin spread in Cumbria apparently set to work on the wrong side of a fence and ploughed £10,000 pounds worth of asparagus instead.

"When we first saw it we were aghast but then we saw the funny side and started laughing," Jim Hadwin told The Daily Mail on Saturday. "The poor guy who did it was absolutely devastated."

The driver had been told to get a field on one side of the fence ready for strawberries, but he instead attacked two acres of asparagus on the other side.

It wasn't a total loss for the farmers who managed to collect 1,400 bunches of the veggies before the tractor put an early end to the harvest.
