Asda cuts price of bananas

Asda cut the price of its bananas last week to 58p a kilo, down from 68p, sparking fears of a renewal of a devastating price war on the popular fruit.

It is the first time in almost a year that Asda has lowered its price for the fruit below 60p and comes as food inflation still accounts for the lion’s share of pricing pressure.

Only Tesco has so far responded, dropping its price to 55p a kilo.
