Seasonal Berries marked the start of home-grown supply with some advice from the face of this year’s promotional campaign, TV presenter Ed Baines.

The chef and owner of Randall & Aubin in Soho, London, shared his thoughts in the Seasonal Berries newsletter last week.

He urged consumers to buy British to support UK growers and praised the “sweetness, fantastic texture and depth of flavour” of home-grown berries.

He said: “Buying British berries ensures that we are supporting local farmers and also means the fruit is at its freshest, arriving into supermarkets soon after being picked - which means you get the best quality and flavour you can find.

“I love to use berries in many diverse ways, from puddings to wonderfully rich-tasting condiments, and they are delicious in game dishes. Or just serve them straight from the punnet with fresh British cream and a sprinkling of sugar.”

Baines singled out raspberries as his favourite berry, describing them as “Mother Nature’s very own confectionery”.

He is promoting his Best of British book, including his recipe for Eton Mess, with seasonal strawberries and raspberries.
