Best new plant for Notcutts

Hibiscus Blue Chiffon from Notcutts Nurseries was named best new plant at last week’s Woking Nursery Exhibition.

The plant, a double blue hibiscus, hardy shrub of the syriacus species, impressed the judges for its fine flowering qualities, rigorous appearance and the fact that it is a good plant for garden centre sales.

In a close competition, the judges also gave a Highly Commended to Prunus Avalon Pride Peach from Blackmoor Nursery, which impressed for the fact that it was free of troublesome peach leaf curl.

The best stand at the show was deemed to be North Hill Nurseries, which was handed the award for its blend of colour, good flow and impressive use of space and height.

Woodlark Nurseries also impressed with its ‘imaginative and colourful display of bedding plants’, which earned it a Highly Commended nod.
