Anti-microbial technology company Byotrol plc has appointed a new biocides expert.

John Yates has more than 38 years’ experience in the research and development field, working in synthetic organic chemistry in a range of areas such as dyestuffs, textile auxiliaries and pharmaceuticals.

Over the last decade he concentrated on biocides, working with a consumer anti-microbial team and holding research and development positions with ICI, Astra Zeneca, Avecia and Arch Chemicals.

Byrotol said that with his extensive experience across these organisations, Yates would be fully equipped to add real benefit to the company’s commitment to continued research and development.

John Yates said: "I am delighted to be commencing my biocides role here at Byotrol and look forward to a fascinating and rewarding position within the research and development team."

Stephen Falder, Byotrol's business development director added: "Byotrol has an ongoing commitment to research and development and we have recognised that John has a crucial role to play in driving this area forward. We are thrilled to have him on board as part of the team and look forward to a successful working partnership."

Byotrol offers products that work against a wide range of micro-organisms including E. coli, Legionella and Listeria, as well as MRSA. The products are not toxic to humans and due to the functionality of the technology, do not promote resistance in susceptible micro-organisms, according the company.

Byrotol says the chemicals used in the formulation of its products are suitable for use on a wide variety of surfaces and materials and do not damage or mark the materials during or after usage. They also present an extremely low toxicity profile to humans compared to other disinfectants in use within a wide range of environments.
