Booths gets dirty on carrots

Re:fresh independent retailer of the year Booths is getting dirty with its carrots.

The north west-based supermarket chain has launched naturally earthed carrots, which it claims look and taste like carrots used to.

The “new” products have been developed by Huntapac Produce, a third-generation farming business based in Tarleton, Lancashire, and are hand-selected and packed.

Packaged in paper bags with a netted window, which has been specially designed to enable them to breathe, the unwashed carrots already have a recommended shelf life which Booths claims is around two-days longer than washed pre-packed carrots.

The concept was developed by Huntapac after it identified an increasing demand among consumers for food in a natural state. The company also controls all stages of its supply chain allowing it to harvest, pack and ship produce quickly, ensuring produce on-shelf is as fresh as possible.

Booths said the decision to stock the naturally earthed carrots demonstrated its continuing commitment to developing new and innovative products.

Chris Treble, Booths fresh produce buyer, said: “There has already been good feedback from our customers about these carrots. In particular people have commented on their excellent flavour.”

The carrots are priced at £1.79 for 1.5kg
