Support for summer holiday clubs in Lincolnshire helps replace free school meals and teach basic cooking skills
Potato supplier Branston is sponsoring cookery classes and donating potatoes to help support free summer holiday clubs for children across Lincolnshire.
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, a government-funded scheme run by Lincolnshire County Council, provides free holiday clubs for children in reception to Year 11 in place of free school meals.
As part of the scheme, Branston has funded 30 cookery sessions with local cookery school Cook Stars, where children learn how to make frittata or potato salads.
They will also take home recipe cards featuring baby potatoes, to provide extra cooking inspiration at home.
“We’re passionate about supporting local initiatives and making a positive impact on Lincolnshire’s communities,” said Branston HR director, Simon Telfer.
“Providing food education to these age groups allows them to make choices that will support their body, but also their mind, for their whole life,” he said.
Executive councillor for children’s services at Lincolnshire County Council, Natalie Oliver, said: “Partnerships like this play a vital role in ensuring families can access support, while helping children stay active, healthy and connected throughout the summer break.
“We would like to thank Branston for their commitment to supporting local communities and making a positive difference to young people across the county.”
