Branston is claiming a success with its Exquisa potato, one of two salad varieties marketed by Tesco under its premium Finest label.

The product has been in store since November and has proved a runaway success, with some stores ordering up to 700 packs a day during a recent promotion.

Exquisa, along with Smile, were the first potatoes to achieve Finest status and are supplied to the chain by Branston.

Roy Maynard, senior buying manager with Tesco said: “These are exciting new products that have generated retail sales in excess of £1 million since their launch. It is an excellent example of a retailer and a supplier working together to meet the needs of customers.”

Smile is a new variety with a red skin and distinctive crescent marking, while Exquisa, which is also sold as a premium product on the continent, is a cream-skinned variety with a buttery flavour.
