Brassica packers in hospital after 'leak'

A suspected carbon monoxide poisoning incident has forced 17 workers at Riviera Produce’s Connor Downs brassica packhouse in Cornwall to be admitted to hospital.

Managing director David Simmons told FPJ: “We had one or two people who started to feel unwell so an ambulance came out.

“Paramedics said it could be carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and the best thing to do was to check everyone at hospital and see if anyone needed to stay in. Thankfully no one did.”

Fire crews said a gas-powered forklift truck may have been the source of the CO emissions.

Riviera is now testing all its forklifts.
