A new name in agrochemicals will be one of the main sponsors of British Potato 2003, the BPC's two-day business and technical event to be held from September 3-4 at the Newark showground.

Belchim Crop Protection signed a contract with event organisers in December. The company's potato business includes two early season herbicides and a desiccant. A blight product will be launched in spring 2003, and an insecticide is provisionally scheduled for 2005.

Spokesman Simon Leak said: 'To compete with the established strength of the big three, we recognise that we have to have specialist products with expert technical support to distributors and growers.

'We aim to establish ourselves as a major player in the potato business and British Potato 2003 gives us just that platform.'
