British Roasties make comeback at Sainsbury's

Sainsbury’s and Greenvale AP have teamed up to create the Roasties range from traditional British potato varieties that were popular when home cooking peaked.

The potatoes are heritage breeds that have stood the test of time in terms of taste and versatility, kept going by gourmets and specialist growers alike, even after they disappeared from supermarket shelves because of their short growing season.

The heritage varieties that passed Sainsbury’s taste tests include Red Duke of York, with moist yellow flesh, Red King Edward, which has white flesh, the unusual Edzell Blue, with its blue skin and white flesh, and the 100-year-old variety British Queen.

These special varieties are only grown in small quantities by dedicated growers so each harvest mimics the profiles of home-grown produce.

The Roasties range will be available in 1kg packs from Sainsbury’s stores.
