Pallet and container pool provider Chep has agreed to make a donation to the International Tree Foundation for every customer who signs up to receive electronic invoice documentation. Under the agreement, the ITF will use the funds to protect and plant new trees across Europe. The move follows Chep’s announcement in February that it had launched an initiative with the ITF, designed to reduce paper waste and increase the amount of trees planted across Europe.

Chep is keen to encourage more of its customers to sign-up to receive electronic invoice documentation, thereby eliminating paper invoices and reducing the impact on the environment.

Peter Mackie, senior vice-president for customer service at Chep said: “This campaign is very important, because although many of our customers are using our electronic systems such as Portfolio to order pallets, a number are continuing to receive paper invoices. Protecting the environment is very important to Chep and we are keen to work closely with customers to improve the efficiency of our processes and procedures for the benefit of the environment”

Since the launch of the programme, 9,483 customers have chosen to switch from paper to electronic invoices. Chep is donating €1 for every customer who switches to electronic invoicing, and has to date donated €9,483 to the ITF.

Chep estimates that users of its equipment pool services between them eliminate more than 6 million tonnes of wood from being sent to landfill each year. Chep repairs any damaged equipment with nails being recycled and wooden pallet components that cannot be repaired reused for fuel, chipboard, mulch and animal bedding.
