According to Costa Rica’s National Banana Corporation Corbana, research is already planned on the reduction of agri-chemical use in banana production.
Corbana is a public-private association and its investment in the research is aimed primarily at making its production a more attractive prospect to the EU market, where it already sends more than half of its total exports.
So far the group has invested more than £500,000 on two new research facilities co-located at the same site, one concentrating on biological pest and disease control and the other on banana microbiology.
