Christmas tree shortage on the cards

This year will see a shortage of larger Christmas trees on the market, according to the Christmas Tree Growers’ Association.

Secretary of the association Roger Hay said: “Supply is fairly good except for larger trees at 2.3 metres or over. They are going to be difficult to find because of weather conditions this year. The vast majority sold or in demand range from 2-2.25m so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

“Otherwise the conifer variety, which is the widely used tree for the festive period, is a very robust tree and the crop is looking good. Trees will come on the market as normal the second week of November.”
