Colombian firm Colibri Flowers picked up the award for World Ornamental Grower of the Year 2006 at Hortifair’s awards ceremony in Amsterdam last week.
Sponsored by Sainsbury’s, the awards were judged on production, use of technology and research, company investment, quality control and traceability and marketing prowess.
Proexport London, which co-ordinated the Colombian growers’ nominations, said it was “delighted with this result for Colibri Flowers and the Colombian flower industry”.
Other finalists in the category were Flores Funza (Colombia), Satakunnan Taimitukku Ay (Finland), Dekker Chrysanten B.V. (The Netherlands), Boomkwekerij Van Der Starre BV (The Netherlands), Donaldsons Flowers Ltd (UK), Vivai Torsanlorenzo (Italy).
