Rose grower David Austin Roses is keen to improve its presence in London’s wholesale markets.

The luxury cut rose specialist produces a collection of five garden rose varieties that have the same year-round availability as modern flowers, which it directly supplies to florists and specialist retailers in the UK and throughout Europe. But the company believes that it is missing out on an opportunity by not supplying its cut flowers to wholesale markets in London.

Laura Stephenson, flower sales representative for David Austin Roses, told FPJ at Horti Fair: “At the moment, we have a lot of clients in London and supply direct to them, but a lot ask if the roses are in New Covent Garden Market as well, as they go there every day for their flowers. There is a lot of interest and we are looking to see if we can get our product into the market.

“The main need for our flowers is at weddings and events, as our product is unique and almost a designer brand, and a lot of florists and consumers go to wholesale markets for something different. We work with wholesale markets such as Southampton and Middlesbrough Flower Centre, but we are looking to getting into the large markets in London,” she added.
