DEFRA minister Jane Kennedy quits

DEFRA minister Jane Kennedy yesterday became the 13th official to step down.

It has been reported that she could not support Gordon Brown.

The prime minister’s spokesman said that he regretted this decision.

The move comes just a few weeks after the Liverpool Wavertree MP recorded a message for the fresh produce industry, played at the Re:fresh Conference in London on May 28.

In her video message, she told delegates that the public wants convenient, good-value food - but also food that is high quality and has been produced with a low environmental impact.

She said: “Proper collaboration is key and the industry needs to work together to see what the market wants and needs.”
