Growers and farmers should take special care to avoid unleashing a pollutant ‘two hundred times more powerful than raw sewage’, according to The Environment Agency. The Agency is organising a special enviro-drive, as silage season kicks into high gear.

“Silage effluent has a particularly toxic effect on the environment as it is up to two hundred times more polluting than untreated sewage,” explained Bob Merriman of the EA. “As a result it is very important to keep even very small quantities away from streams and ditches.
