Across the East Midlands region, 36 farms are opening their gates to the public on June 10 and inviting friends, neighbours and local people in.

The events are part of a drive to show the public where food comes from and how farmers look after their crops and animals. Many farms will have guided walks or trailer rides, nature trails, games and quizzes, refreshments and other activities.

“In the East Midlands the NFU is strongly supporting this campaign,” says NFU regional director Richard Hezlet. “Our industry has much to be proud of and we want local people to come and see at first hand how their food is produced, how animals are cared for and what farmers do to look after the countryside. Every day farmers work to preserve the rural environment for generations to come.”
