The government has released its latest projections for the UK’s energy and carbon emissions.

The consultation, published by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will form the basis of the government’s new Climate Change Programme and contribute to its ongoing Energy Review.

The DTI’s final projections will be used to inform allocations for the next phase of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, from 2008-2012.

The aim of the eight-week long consultation is to give stakeholders the opportunity to comment on technical issues relating to the projections, for example assumptions about fossil fuel prices, output growth and the potential for halting the energy crisis.

The government will be holding stakeholder events to present the findings and discuss sector-specific issues.

A separate consultation will take place later this spring on the UK's Phase II National Allocation Plan.
