Abbey View Produce (AVP)’s first English peppers of the season have hit Sainsbury’s stores.

Based in Waltham Abbey, the firm delivered its first capsicums of the year to Sainsbury’s Loughton store in Essex on Tuesday.

The company grows 10 acres of peppers under its own production and six acres within its grower group in Essex and Hertfordshire.

It supplies about 70 Sainsbury’s stores in London and South East England with loose green, red, yellow and orange peppers along with mixed and the value line Basics pre-packs.

AVP’s technical director Stephen Hedderly said: “Crop quality looks excellent and has been helped greatly by the last two weeks of good light levels, after real concerns in January and February following the dull and overcast conditions.”
