Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere, the annual conference and exhibition event for the region’s fresh produce industry, is to take place in Uruguay for the first time on 1-3 December.

Taking place at the Conrad Hotel in Uruguay’s popular tourist resort of Punta del Este, Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere brings together some 300 delegates in discussion over the current issues affecting the region’s fruit and vegetable export markets.

The programme considers the latest trends influencing the key areas of the region’s fresh produce business, including logistics, costs and competitiveness, product opportunities, new markets and trade agreements.

Ole Shack Petersen of Damco International A/S and Hans van Es of the Dutch Produce Association are among the high-profile organisations that will be speaking at Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere.

Petersen will be sharing his expertise on how to manage challenges in the cool chain while Mr Van Es will present on how market access changes will implicate southern hemisphere countries.

"Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere will provide a very good opportunity to show firsthand the potential of Uruguay’s fresh fruit industry", said Horacio Ozer Ami, chairman of Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere supporters Upefruy.

"The international community will also have the chance to really appreciate Uruguay’s logistical advantages and see the many important investments which have been made during the last few years at the Port of Montevideo and at the international airport in the capital."

Organisers Eurofruit Magazine is offering delegates a 20 per cent saving on registration fees made online at www.eurofruitcongress.com/sh before 1 November, with further savings available for groups of colleagues and South American delegates wishing to attend.

Companies such as Gamorel, Damco and SAVE have recently confirmed their sponsorship joining other industry players such as Caputto, Milagro, San Miguel, SevenSeas Group, Lantao, Sensitech, Uproa, Fruit Logistica and NYKCool.
