Fischer Farms has welcomed John Meijer to its new technology division to lead its commercial development globally.

Joining Fischer Farms Technology (FFT) as technology sales director, Meijer brings decades of experience in international horticultural technology and a passion for innovative climate and cultivation systems.

FFT said his appointment signals the company’s commitment to connecting its advanced vertical farming solutions with growers, wholesalers, integrators, and investment partners worldwide.

FFT is the next phase of Fischer Farms’ development. The new division will manufacture a new generation of scalable ‘grow containers’ that combine advanced environmental control, high-efficiency LED lighting, mobile crop trolleys, and proprietary recipe-based software to optimise yield and quality.

Backed by a multi-million-pound investment from Gresham House, FFT will operate from its new manufacturing base at Bromford Gate in the West Midlands. This site will serve as the hub for developing FFT’s proprietary hardware and software platforms.

“After my time at Bom Group and my early retirement, I realised that horticulture continues to inspire and fascinate me, and I was simply starting to miss it”, said Meijer.

“I want to contribute to a company that is driving the evolution of growing fresh, healthy, and sustainable food.

“The technologies developed within Fischer Farms are now being made available through Fischer Farms Technology, solutions that have been tested, proven, and shown to be commercially viable. This makes it an exciting time to be active in the sector again.”

Tristan Fischer, group CEO of Fischer Farms Technology, added: “With John joining our team, we strengthen our presence worldwide and bring our technology closer to growers, wholesalers, integrators, and investment partners.

“His experience, network, and drive align perfectly with our ambition to make a global impact through reliable, scalable, and sustainable cultivation technology.”

Fischer Farms has now been in operation for almost a decade and is one of the world’s largest vertical farms, spanning 28,000m² of growing space across two UK sites.

With the launch of FFT, that expertise is being transformed into modular, container-based solutions that can be deployed anywhere in the world.

The company’s modular approach allows customers to start with a single grow container and expand by adding additional units. The containers have been designed for efficiency, offering more than 90 per cent water savings and flexible ownership or leasing models to suit growers of all sizes.
