Vertical farming and agri-tech firm Fischer Farms is partnering with food surplus charity City Harvest to redistribute edible crops to charities across London.

The collaboration has already helped redistribute 1.3 tonnes of surplus crops from Fischer Farms’ vertical farming trials, including leafy greens and herbs.

”Working with City Harvest allows us to ensure that surplus stock from our farm has a meaningful purpose, reaching communities that can benefit from fresh, nutritious produce,” said Fischer Farms commercial director, Jon Cummings.

“It’s a natural extension of what vertical farming can deliver, not just efficiency and sustainability, but real social impact,” he added.

City Harvest supports around 130,000 Londoners every week through a network of food banks, community groups and charities, providing access to consistent supplies of fresh produce to communities facing food insecurity.

A spokesperson for the charity said: ”Fresh produce is one of the most in-demand and impactful donations we receive, and working with Fischer Farms means we can provide high-quality, sustainably grown food to the communities we support across London.”
