British-Flowers-Week-2017-five-florists-New-Covent-Garden-Flower-Market

British Flowers Week has kicked off with the release of 15 specially commissioned designs from five of the country's top florists.

The event, organised by the Flower Market at New Covent Garden, is taking place from 19-25 June, and aims to celebrate British flowers and the people who grow them. There will be celebrations of British flowers in shops, city centres, stately homes and gardening shows, as well as workshops, farm open days and social media activity.

Some of the nation's top florists have also been chosen to take part in a special photoshoot for British Flowers Week. They are Mary Jane Vaughan Designs, Carly Rogers Flowers, Urban Flower Company, Jennifer Pinder Floral Styling and Petal & Stalk (Lincolnshire).

The UK flower and plant industry is worth over £2.2 billion, with 12 per cent of all the flowers sold in this country now home-grown - up from 10 per cent in 2013.

NCGM spokesperson Helen Evans said: 'British Flowers Week is an important opportunity to recognise some of the people that are the driving force behind the continued creativity and development of the British floristry industry today. Our winners this year represent everyone from the traditionalists to young, up-and-coming new florists and are examplary of why the UK continues to produce world-class florists.'
