The Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) set out its strategy for the coming year during a crunch meeting in London.

New Covent Garden Market was the venue for the summit, which began with a two-minute silence for the late Arthur Hutchinson.

The group then welcome new wholesale chairman Mr Daykin.

Discussions revolved around the implications of the Bangor Project – a groundbreaking piece of research that shows how children can be taught to like fresh produce.

The National Fruit for Schools scheme, which continues its advance on the nation's education establishments at the rate of one region per term this year, was also a key topic in the meeting.

Other considerations included the EU pesticides review, the international coding drive and the forthcoming joint industry conference with the NFU on February 28.
