New Covent Garden Market (NCGM) wholesaler The French Garden has been the first to be awarded British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification to global standard for storage and distribution.

The staff at The French Garden have been working towards the accreditation for a year and the firm is the only wholesaler in NCGM to have the certification.

The company’s Phillip Marsh said: “We are sure it is the right way forward for our company. Most of the catering supply section of the industry has certification and is coming under ever more pressure to comply with health regulations and, in turn, they need their suppliers, where possible, to be certificated.

“The amount of work involved is considerable, both to achieve BRC and to maintain the high standards required to keep it, but as usual The French Garden is setting the pace and no doubt others will follow,” he continued. “It is our hope that this will be instrumental in the continued expansion of our company, thereby securing the future for our young and dynamic team.”

The French Garden, which specialises in French speciality vegetables for both caterers and retail, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year.
