Fruit Attraction sees attendance increase

The third edition of Spanish fresh produce fair Fruit Attraction on 19-21 October in Madrid has attracted a record number of visitors.

The fair was inaugurated by the Spanish minister of agriculture Rosa Aguilar and boasted 561 exhibitors over some 15,000 sq metres. This figure is 24 per cent up on the last show in 2010. Some 18,473 visitors attended the event, 47 per cent up on last year.

As well as providing a showcase for all of Spain’s fresh produce production areas, there was a strong international flavour to the event thanks to delegations from Iran, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal and the UK, as well as companies from Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

Fruit Attraction was organised by Spanish producer-exporters’ association Fepex and Feria de Madrid and welcomed discussions on distribution and retail with speakers from Asda, Metro, Ahold/Albert Heijn, Eroski, Russia’s Dixy group and the Saint Charles wholesale market in Perpignan.

The event also played host to the first edition of Apple Attraction, a specialist event dedicated to the worldwide production and consumption of apples, organised by Eumedia and Italian publication Fresh Point magazine.
