Fyffes announces results and new non-executive director

Fyffes Plc has announced that it has made a new appointment to its board, with Jim O'Hara joining as a non-executive director with immediate effect.

O'Hara, 61, is a former vice-president of Intel Corporation and general manager of Intel Ireland, while he is a board member of Allied Banks, EBS and Enterprise Ireland.

The Ireland-based tropical fruit importer has reported impressive results for 2011, posting a 35.3 per cent increase in its annual net profit from continuing operations to €11.2m, on the back of a 14.5 per cent annual rise in turnover to €850m.

While the notable increase in revenue was mainly the result of Fyffes' recently acquired one-third stake in German distributor Van Wylick, which brought €63.8m in additional sales on to the balance sheet, the company said like-for-like sales were 5.9 per cent higher compared with 2010.
