A gangmaster father and son team have been jailed for seven years each for employing up to 1,700 illegal workers in a multi-million pound scam.

Gangmasters Victor and Jayson Cox ran a racket which help bring dozens of illegal immigrants, mostly from Latvia, Lithuania and eastern Europe into the UK. They were employed to supply fruit and vegetables to supermarkets including Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and Tesco.

The pair used forged documents to convince firms that the workers were in Britain legally. They used two companies Cox’s Fruit and Veg packers and Student Recruitment Ltd as cover to smuggle the migrants into Britain.
