Greenvale introduces potato with a twist

Potato supplier Greenvale is introducing a new twist to the UK potato market - with a little help from South Africa.

Greenvale is introducing the Chip Twister, a novel machine developed by Flavourlicious Foods based in Cape Town, which slices whole potatoes into a unique twisted “chip on a stick”. Both companies were at the Food & Drink Expo in Birmingham this week to demonstrate the equipment.

Craig Sankey, marketing manager with Greenvale, said the Chip Twister was certainly proving popular with visitors: “We went through 500 Mayan Gold potatoes in the first day alone.

“We’re the only company with a licence to sell the equipment in the UK and we’ve had a lot of interest from people at the show.”

He said the device was ideal for the catering sector, and particularly mobile catering outlets.

Greenvale also recently launched a fresh, chilled mash offer into Tesco, and Sankey said the product, which has a shelf life of five days, was going down extremely well.

“It’s a Maris Piper mash, but we can also do other varieties as well as sweet potato. It went into store a couple of weeks ago and is doing well. People like it because it provides convenience, not everyone has the time to peel, boil and mash a potato these days. All it needs is four minutes in a microwave.”
