Hargreaves Plants Ltd has appointed Bob Harper-Smith in a senior management role in the Hargreaves production team. Harper-Smith will concentrate on improving the quality of field produced strawberry and raspberry plants.
Commercial director Rupert Hargreaves commented on the latest strengthening of Hargreaves Plants growing team. He said: “We have recently invested over £250,000 in new equipment; tractors, plant harvesters and irrigation systems. With the appointment of an experienced field manager like Bob Harper Smith we know we can lift our propagation standards to a new benchmark. I am confident that our customers, both in the UK and, increasingly overseas, will be pleased with our plants.
“When we launched our SupaViga brand three years ago, we set ourselves a quality standard that we now need to surpass. Our elite customers are constantly seeking to improve their levels of quality fruit production and we have to meet their demands.”
Harper-Smith has wide-ranging production experience in many hard to grow crops. In addition to managing quality production of many irrigated crops, he has controlled large labour forces, cold stores and looked after quality control. He said: “I have enjoyed a wide range of farm management experiences covering many growing aspects. Listening to the fine attention to details soft fruit plants require creates a massive challenge and I’m really looking forward to it.”
