Israeli breeder Hazera Genetics has launched the new Yaara tomato variety.
The fruit can be grown during the summer season under hot, dry conditions, has a high yield, and was developed in conjunction with researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, primarily to supply Israel and neighbouring countries.
Dr Alon Haberfeld, manager of Hazer’a tomato division, said that farmers in Spain and Latin America, where the climate is similar to that of Israel, have shown great interest in Yaara.
The new variety has long shelf life, is a very red colour and offers improved taste, he added.
