British Leafy Salads Association is the new name for the British Iceberg Growers Association.

The name change is in recognition of the company's remit, and it will now address issues for all leafy salads, grown both in fields and glasshouses.

An open meeting will be held on July 10 to formally launch the Association, this will take place at Haycock Hotel in Peterborough. The meeting will be followed up by an open conference on November 13 at Peterborough's East of England Showground.

Three main divisions will exist in the Association, these being marketing, technical and food safety divisions. And the Association's objectives include increasing the consumption of UK salads, sustaining the industry, increasing technical support and investigating bulk purchase arrangements.

Membership of the Association is open to all leafy salad growers and packers, with a category for allied industries including seed companies and packaging suppliers.
