Food and grocery expert IGD has announced the shortlisted entries for the annual Food Industry Awards.

Now in their 19th year, the awards provide an opportunity for companies and individuals to gain recognition for excellence across a variety of categories, ranging from sustainability and supply chain excellence, to consumer understanding and social innovation.

Tesco is up for nomination in the ECR UK Award for Sustainable Distribution, along with Heart of England Fine Foods, Kimberly-Clark Ltd & Kellogg’s, Boots Company plc and Nestlé UK & United Biscuits (Holdings) Ltd.

Sarah Corbin of G’s Marketing Ltd is shortlisted in the Danone Leading Edge Leading Light Award, along with Clare Smith of the National Farmers’ Union and Emma Sundt of the Fairtrade Foundation. They face competition from Tom Benton of Little Dish, Victoria Burgess of Cadbury, Denys Shortt from DCS Europe plc, Lorraine Thomas from Sodhexo and Andy Walsh from Makro Cash & Carry.

Asda and Morrisons are up against General Mills UK Ltd, Kellogg’s and Warner’s Budgens for the Unilever Social Innovation Award.

And Mack Multiples is shortlisted for the General Mills Award for Consumer Understanding, along with Compass Group plc, Spar (UK) Ltd, Premier Foods Group Limited and Birds Eye Iglo Ltd.

Either The Co-operative Group, The Staging House, Unilever UK - Flora and United Biscuits (Holdings) Ltd could be the recipient of the Nestlé Wellness Award.

WS Bentley (Growers) Ltd is up for the Morrisons Award for Outstanding Small Business, against Debbie & Andrews Ltd, Ella’s Kitchen Ltd and Simon Howie Foods.

The Ian MacLaurin Award for Supply Chain Excellence has shortlisted Booker Group Ltd, the Ice Company (Polarcube) Ltd, Musgrave Group and Tate & Lyle Sugars. Musgrave is also nominated for the John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development, up against Cranswick Convenience Foods plc, Greencore Group plc and Nestlé UK Ltd.

The recipient of the Tetra Pak Environmental Sustainability Award will be either Arla Foods UK plc & Asda Stores Ltd, PepsiCo UK & Ireland, Sainsbury’s, Tesco Stores Ltd or Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc.

WS Bentley & Growers is also shortlisted for the Boxwood Award for Business Transformation, new for 2009 and also featuring Cadbury, Burts Potato Chips Ltd and Premier Foods Group Ltd.

The winners will be announced on October 13 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
