Israeli Galia shipping begins

Israeli marketer Agrexco has shipped the first batch of Galia melons to the European market.

The first of two weekly shipments to Europe leaving Israel embarked this week, marking the beginning of a season that will run through until the end of April

The first variety exported to key European markets is Galia, the group revealed, with the melons shipped in Agrexco's modern Carmel BioTop and Carmel Eco fresh reefer vessels to ensure freshness and ensure a low carbon footprint.

Galia, which boasts high sugar levels, will lead the way before other varieties are shipped, with the season running through until the end of April.

The Arava region is the main cultivation area for Agrexco's melons, with new growers choosing the group as their export company this year, according to the company - all of whom are certified and adhere to GlobalGAP regulations and standards.
