Kernock Park Plants has presented a cheque for over £21,000 to Kew Gardens as a contribution for the part Kew played in the initial launch of the Wollemi Pine in 2006.

The money will be put towards conservation work within the gardens.

Kernock’s Richard Harnett said that the introduction was an example of how ‘marketing can achieve excellent results for conservation, the grower and retailer.’

The Wollemi Pine was released to retailers throughout the country during Chelsea week and results from many centres have been very encouraging, with many wanting top up quantities already. The plant is often purchased as a gift and Kernock is at present advertising nationally promoting Fathers Day on June 17. The next big advertising programme will be for Christmas with garden centres stocking the plant from early October.
